Diamonds and design are in Audrey Savransky’s DNA. The Belgian fourth-generation (you read it right) diamond dealer’s fine jewelry line AS29 has serious wearable appeal infused with mega-watt shine. Audrey’s scientific approach behind the collection is clever and intriguing: her jewelry is a contemporary remedy aimed to cure “diamond envy,” delivering the perfect dose of sparkle to women. Designed to be “as healing as medicine and as tempting as candy,” AS29 pieces even come in a pretty pink pillbox.
On a trip to one of our favorite cities, Hong Kong, we met Audrey and learned more about her journey to designing her own line and fascination with medicine and chemicals. The jewelry is even more sparkly and rock ‘n’ roll in person…this is a prescription we can rally behind! -Jenna Fain for The Stone Set
“When I moved to Hong Kong a decade ago, I had the opportunity to start my own fine jewelry line. I’m a creative person and love beautiful things in general, so launching my fine jewelry line, AS29 by Audrey Savransky, in 2008 was a dream come true.
As a fourth generation diamond dealer, I grew up hearing my parents and grandparents talk about diamonds and jewellery all my life, whether it was at the dinner table or in my dad’s office when I’d go and see him after school. My family was/is in the trading business; I guess doing jewellery is the modern way of carrying on the heritage that was passed to me by my family.
All our pieces are sold in packaging in the shape of a medication pill. I wanted to find a funny way for women to buy fine jewellery, so I came up with the diamond remedy concept. AS29 is the chemical compound found in our products…but it’s actually my initials and lucky number. The theme of jewelry as being medicinal and related to chemicals is recurring in my jewelry. Retail therapy has be proven to do wonders for so many women for years! So why not apply the same concept to diamond jewellery?
AS29 signature pieces are two and three-finger rings and phalanx rings. I wear them all the time and design each collection with these three styles. My latest collection has been inspired by colours, and I’ve used crazy gold colours to design my new pieces. I only work with gold, diamonds and semi precious stones. I prefer abstract, geometric and unisex designs and shapes.
From a business point of view, it’s amazing to live and work in Hong Kong because this enables you to do everything. Anything is possible in this city. I come from Europe where the working mentality is quite different then in Asia. In regards to the creative process, Hong Kong is not really inspiring me as much as all my travels in the region and around the world. In general, I’m very inspired by fashion trends as I don’t do classic jewellery. The best lesson I’ve learned is to work harder then you think you did yesterday.” -Audrey Savransky of AS29
