As a former stylist, Jessica Richards always has her finger on the pulse of what’s up and coming. Shen Beauty, her innovative beauty boutique in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, is a cult favorite for beauty enthusiasts and neighborhood regulars alike. Jessica handpicks the best brands in skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance and champions them at Shen even if they’re difficult to track down across the globe. After stopping in on many occasions for our favorite essentials like Le Feau De L’eau candles, Pursoma detox and wellness products, and Amanda Lacey skincare, we began to notice that Jessica has a serious love for adornment. She’s never without her signature Cartier Panthère ring, but can simultaneously rock a ring she purchased at a street fair for $10 alongside it. When it comes to jewelry, Jessica is fearless. Below, we check in with the beauty entrepreneur about her favorite pieces of jewelry and growing watch collection. -The Stone Set
“I love jewelry because it can change your look instantly, just like lipstick. My personal jewelry style centers around classic statement pieces. Speaking of which, I would absolutely love to raid Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry box…who wouldn’t? I love a statement piece and she had every single one you could dream of.
I like watches because I feel like they’re easy collectors’ pieces. Plus, I don’t like to be late, so they really help me with that! The vintage gold Rolex watch my grandmother passed to me when she died is special because my father bought it for her decades ago and I absolutely love the band. I find it so unique and special and have never seen anyone with it.
My go-to everyday staples are my Cartier Panthère ring with emerald eyes, gold Rolex watch, $20 ring from Claire’s, and diamond earrings from my mom. My Cartier ring is one of my most treasured pieces because it was a gift from my mother and father. I also cherish the beautiful diamond earrings that my boyfriend designed for me when our second son Everett was born. They are very ladylike but also make quite the statement. The fact that he designed something for me what with his busy schedule makes them even more precious, and that they represent my children.
A piece that has been on my wish list for over twelve years was the most beautiful fire opal bracelet I’ve ever seen. It was the one that got away! It was at Bergdorf Goodman and was the size of a coaster with simple gold and diamond around it. I have wished for it ever since and don’t recall who the designer was, which is even more upsetting. I also dream of owning a pair of emerald earring designed by JAR.
JAR is one of my all-time favorite jewelry designers and makes the most gorgeous pieces I have ever seen. I also love Cartier, Gaia Repossi, Coléoptère, and Jennifer Fisher. Cartier is classic and I love a panther. Leopard print is like a neutral to me. I really like the new version of my Panthère ring that was just released—it’s like the skull version of mine. I find Gaia Repossi’s pieces are a new classic and very feminine looking, which for jewelry is not something I typically go for. I love her rings, and dream of this one.
I’m also a big fan of Jennifer Fisher because I think she’s a strong woman and her jewelry is absolutely fantastic. I have her Scissor Cuff (check), Vertebrae Ring (check)…I just need to get some personalized items from her with my kids’ birthdates on them and I will be so happy.” –Jessica Richards
