When we encountered Lito Jewelry at White Bird Jewellery in Paris, we were immediately captivated by the modern interpretation of symbolism and exotic materials and colors. Greek designer Lito Karakostanoglou manages to make universal, ageless motifs like an Eye and Hive refreshed and enticing. After studying technical drawing and sculpture and earning an MBA, Lito channeled her passion for jewelry into a well-rounded multi-collection brand with several standout pieces. It’s rare for rising talent within the fine jewelry industry to design so many potential signature pieces from the start, but Lito has managed this with ease. Embelematic and evocative, Lito’s jewelry communicates power, nature, and protection for the women who wear it.
“During my MBA studies in Boston, I started experimenting with jewelry and I realized its purpose in my life. A few years after opening my boutique in Athens, I got further involved into crafting by moving to Paris and studying sculpture at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and technical drawing at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Bijouterie and Joaillerie et Orfevrerie.
Greece influences my design very much. Everything in Greece is about life and how to enjoy it. It’s about freedom. My designs reflect nature’s spontaneity and freedom. Tradition meets the unexpected in, what I consider, an unconventional way. Symbolism is a very important element of our culture. The scarab is a messenger of eternity. It was a great experience to transform this ancient mythical symbol into a modern, unique piece of jewelry.
I would say that over the years, nature and inspirations coming from my travels are the most common elements in my collections. The Peacock, the Hive, The Scarabées de Beaute. And of course, symbolism.
The Eye, for example, is a traditional symbol of protection. I wanted to transform it into a playful reminder that beauty is everywhere.
The Eye and the Hive styles are the most seducing, sexy, provocative pieces in my line. But the truth is that each piece represents a different aspect of the female nature. I adore layering pieces together, so depending on the season or just my mood, I layer new pieces that I am currently working on with different ones from my collections.
Every woman inspires me in a different way. Women who dare to be themselves, women who have a style of their own, women that are fashionable in their unique way!” -Lito Karakostanoglou of Lito Jewelry
